Episode One (remade and remastered)

DstCoyote’s review:

One afternoon, while checking my email, I stumbled upon a message from JMAP asking me, “what if we took out all the paint stuff in Episode One and replaced it with photoshop stuff?” My initial response was “sure, maybe later, but not now.” I wanted to start working on people animation, while JMAP hadn’t seen the light of it yet. He kept urging me to help remake Episode One, but I kept saying, “what’s the point?!” Eventually, he convinced me, and I finally saw what the true intentions were: To make an episode that starts the Stick Fantasy Series with a better back story and better animation.

Once again it opens up with a newspaper thingy while Pennywise’s Bro Hymn is playing. But this time, it’s a headline and not that ill fated, “Previously on…” part. The picture is of Stick Mario holding the Stanley Cup. In June 2007, I had witnessed the Anaheim Ducks win the Stanley Cup Finals in front of my eyes (I was actually there :D), so when thinking of some kind of prize for Mario to hold as “the most popular,” I was thinking, “why not have him hoist it?” I thought it was good for a laugh. When he says, “34t d4t /\/()()8z lol! (eat that noobs),” that was referencing the instance in the comments when Light Walker and Mario Mario tried speaking 1337 (leet) to each other.

Old New

There are numerous references to the old version of Episode One. The part with Link and Navi was actually a little part that occurred in Episode Zero, except I changed it around a bit. The ideas for parts with Link’s grandmother are in the old version, and they’re also changed for the remade version. The part where they argue and the parts of Mr. Error were all JMAP’s ideas. The argument scene references the Street Fighter II games, and the music that plays is the stage for Vega/Balrog{Japan} ,the guy with the mask and metal claw.

Oh, and that odd noise you hear when the grandmother appears is a sound from Naruto.

The Four Sword Temple part is simply an enhanced version, while the Metal Gear part is the exact same as before. We didn’t change it up because we felt that it was the only part worthy to keep from the old version, plus it was done with photoshop, which gives it more credibility.

The remade version is composed 6/10 new material and 4/10 of stuff from the old version. But it makes the story line have more continuity with the rest of the series. Was there really a point in remaking it? Not really; plus I’m not much for remakes either, but this is one case where something had to be reworked and remastered. Is it better? JMAP and I both think it is.

My Overall Score: 8
