Episode Two
Dstcoyote’s review:
Episode Two in our minds is simply the last half of the original 20 minute video we first did for JMAP Productions . Due to the remake of Episode One, it now continues the storyline of the Stick Fantasy Series.
The first couple of minutes in this video is simply the leftover footage from the last four minutes of Episode One. If we had a choice to put it in Episode One, I’m sure we would’ve done that instead. But because YouTube has that ten minute rule, and that we really didn’t want to take out anything in Episode One to make room for it, it stayed on this video instead. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, but we didn’t like how it straight up continues the Metal Gear Sequence where it left off. But in our minds, we didn’t have a choice.
That little fight scene between Link and the Death Cap (the pun towards the actual poisonous mushroom was intended) has music from Chrono Trigger playing. After the little part where Link deflects the fireball, I couldn’t think of anything to do, plus I wanted the part to get done so I could send it back to JMAP.
We thought it was very random and funny to have a super star to be wearing an eye patch. In fact, when I added the eye patch to it, we couldn’t stop laughing. You can see one on a poster in a scene in Mario’s room, plus when Mario himself holds one up.
The little part with the ice cap we thought would be funny if it we heard just the sounds of Link beating him up. All those sounds came from a soundtrack song from Metal Gear Solid 3. I think we also didn’t want to make another full on fight sequence because we were trying to get the video focused on the showdown between Mario and Link.
Next we come to the showdown between Link’s gang and Mario’s gang. The reason why Mario and Luigi have two miniature versions of themselves was because JMAP originally wanted them to be baby Mario and Luigi, but I thought that wouldn’t make sense, so I just made the miniature versions instead. It was also to make it a fairer fight rather than have 4 gang up on two.
When we first showed the part where Mario uses a super shiny star to our family, they were all shouting, “Oh my god, it’s the invincible music! It’s Mario Music!” It seemed that all they cared about was that there was Mario music and not that we were trying to make a funny moment. Because of that, they didn’t get the joke when the star breaks down.
Now we come to the pivot fight. I wanted it to be epic and full of action. I remember when JMAP first sent me the fight, and it lasted only 15 seconds! I kept having to tell him, “it needs to be longer! way longer!” JMAP had just downloaded pivot, and he didn’t know a lot about it then. That’s why it looks a little disoriented and not as good of quality as the later videos that have pivot. Because he forgot to add a background, I just wrote in before the sequence that they will be transfered to the “Lighter Lighter World, where everyone looks deformed!” In all, I thought the pivot sequence was the higher point of the video, and when I added music and sound effects, it definitely had that epic feel I wanted. And because we knew we were going to make another one, we added a suspenseful cliffhanger ending to it.
Episode Two surprises us because by a wide margin, it has gotten the most views, comments, ratings, and favorites out of any video we’ve done. This is partially due to it showing up in the first page of search results for “Zelda Animation” and such searches like that. This is good because it gives a chance for people to see our creations, but we really wish that those who first see Episode Two look at the other videos as well. We think Episodes Three, Four, Five, and even the remake to Episode One are better than this.
My Overall Score: 6.5
